In order to increase the security of the Psychiatry-UK portal, all users are now required to use a system called 2 factor authentication (2fa) to login to the portal
This is easy to set up but does require you to have a phone that you can install apps onto or at the very least is able to receive sms messages (texts).
When 2fa is activated you will see a new screen that looks like this:
Using the Authenticator App…
If you choose to use an authenticator app you will need to download that first before you can go any further. The Google Authenticator app is the most popular and easy to use although there are others (https://www.guidingtech.com/best-two-factor-authentication-apps-iphone-android/). Our advice is to use the Google Authenticator app as this is tried and tested and works.
Once installed on your phone you need to scan the barcode that you see. This will set up this login (you only need to do this once). You will see a 6 figure number on your phone which you then need to type into the screen. This code will change every time you login (which is what makes 2FA so secure).
Once you have added the code click the blue circle arrow at the bottom of the box which will take you to a new window (see below).
Using SMS instead of an Authentcator App?
Click the SMS link
You will then be asked to choose your country code and provide a mobile number. When adding the number you can type in your full number with any leading zeros (ie 079675455).
Once you add this and press the arrow at the bottom of the form the system will take you to the screen below.
Note: The mobile number you provide is NOT connected to the mobile number in your user profile and once entered cannot be changed (although we can reset 2fa if you need to change phones or are given a new mobile number – see note at the bottom of this page).
Whatever method of 2fa that you choose you will have to verify that you have saved the recovery codes. Please take note of these in case you ever lose your phone. This is the only time you will see this screen.
Once you have ticked the box on this screen you will be verified and taken to your account.
Every time you login from now on you will always use the 2fa method that you chose at the start (either by authenticator app or by SMS).
Note: If you are not able to login using your chosen method and/or have lost your recovery code please create a support ticket here giving us the email address that you use to login with. We will then be able to reset 2fa which you will need to set up again from the start.
